Offline Wiki

Purpose

Although using a wiki has major advantages in most areas, it presents a problem for customers who, for one reason or another, do not always enjoy 'always online' status. In addition, even those who usually enjoy a permanent internet connection can also suffer interruption to their service.

To solve this problem, RemObjects has written an automatic service that provides a downloadable copy of the wiki suitable for offline use.

Next time, you go on a business trip, don't forget to download the wiki before you go!

How to Use

Clicking on this link will download the the latest offline version of the wiki data as a .zip file be extracted to a local folder of your choice. Next, open one of the folder's html files in your browser (the start page is called Main_Page.html) - its as simple as that.

From any page, you have immediate access to the Main Page plus many others via the comprehensive cross-referencing within the wiki.

When is it Updated?

The main wiki itself is a living knowledge base with many changes every day. In addition, there will be major changes occurring every three months as new versions of our products get shipped (features in beta get moved from beta wikis into the main public wiki).

Accordingly, the download file is updated once every day (early hours CET). The download link automatically fetches the latest version.

Limitations

Obviously, an offline version of an online resource is likely to have limitations, but these have been kept to a minimum. What isn't quite so obvious though is that some functionality does not work even if you are online.

First, external links will work if you are actually online.

The following features do not work at all though:

• sidebar items that are 'crossed out' (see screenshot on the right)
• sidebar 'search'
• all top 'tabs' (as you would expect, the offline wiki is read-only)
• the 'Categories' link at the bottom of most pages is disabled

However, these are very minor limitations compared with no access. Page navigation is almost as good as it is on the online version.
