New to wiki editing?
If you have not used a wiki before, it is important to understand how new wiki pages are created. Instead of a create operation, a link to it is added to an existing page. For example, to create a page called Abcde, you add a link to it somewhere in the following format: [[Abcde]]
It is suggested that you place the new link on your 'user page' (see the link at the top of the page). When you save the page containing the link, you will see the link displayed in red. Clicking on it will put you into edit mode on the new page.
Adding content to a page is as simple as just typing it in and using some simple 'markup' rules to make it look nice. See formatting for a primer.
Naming your Page
You might like to look at wiki structure to see how pages are organized. This is not essential, however, as a sysop will move (i.e. rename) your page if it conflicts with the overall naming used in the wiki. If your page does get renamed, you will see the link change on your user page (about the only time where wiki etiquette permits others to modify the content of your page).
Starting Your Page
Your next step depends on whether you want to do all the editing at once or in several edits:
- First but not final edit - insert {{wip}} at the top of the page. This will alert others that it's a "work in progress" and shows that the page is not ready to be reviewed by a sysop.
- Final edit - insert {{wipr}} at the top of the page (or modify existing wip to wipr). This will indicate that you have finished the page and allow it to be reviewed.
Note: your new page will still be reviewed and subject to change for typos, errors etc. even if the page does not hold one of these templates. For the benefit of other customers though, we ask you to adhere to these guidelines so that they know which content has been verified by a sysop.
